STORY

The plot of the flick revolves around the character of Baabaar (Soham Shah) in Amanganj(somewhere in the interiors of UP), who has grown up from a twelve- year- old innocent boy to a dreaded shooter ruling the roost in the crime world. He had shot a man with a country made revolver when he was just a kid and now everybody fears Baabarr.

But his notoriety forces Government of the day to rope in encounter specialist SP Dwivedi(Mithun Chakraborty). The state has given free hand to Dwivedi in dealing with the menace of Baabarr. Even if Baabarr was killed during the operations, the Govt decided not to intervene in the matter.

SP Dwivedi starts investigations in right earnest and soon he realized that there was something more than meets the eye. Dwivedi’s gut feeling was that Baabarr’s death was being demanded by those who were hobnobbing with him some time ago.

To uncover the truth, SP Dwivedi makes a plan in cooperation with his junior Daroga(Om Puri). He wants to befriend and use Baabarr’s arch rival Tabrez( Sushant Singh) to know the truth

What happens after that to Baabarr and SP Dwivedi forms the rest of the flick.


PERFORMANCE


Soham Shah, who enacts the lead part of Baabarr Qureshi, comes out with flying colors. He has enacted the part with complete conviction and it shows in the flick everywhere. The positive point with the actor is that he was a fresh face and so did not have any image associated with him, which was so necessary for the person playing such a dark and brutal character.

Mithun Chakraborty, the old war horse of bollywood who plays the role of SP Dwivedi, is comfortable in his role. He looks genuine in his facial expressions when entrusted with the daunting task of either arresting Baabarr or killing him in an encounter. He is perfectly suited for the part.

Om Puri, who plays the wily, oily junior Daroga to Mithun Chakraborty in the film, is at his usual best. In any case, Om Puri is expected to excel in his roles every time he comes on screen in any film and he has kept alive that impression about his acting prowess.

Sushant Singh, who plays the part of Tarbez in the film, looks convincing and confident in his role. Sushant Singh has brought the bitter rivalry with Baabarr alive with his inspiring performance.

Tinnu Anand uses all his experience in the bollywood to enact that death sequence in the film, which has come out as one of the best in the category. Even the other famous actor known for his ‘aau’ style of acting, Shakti Kapoor, has done a fabulous job in the flick.

Urvashi Sharma provides the glamour quotient to the whole venture and looks hot. Govind Namdeo and Mukesh Tiwari have enacted their characters with great understanding in the flick.

The able direction of Ashuu Trikha shows in the tight narration and competent execution of the subject. He has made a great leap from his days of ‘Alag Alag’ and this flick is likely to be a landmark for the director. Ashuu has handled the dramatic sequences between the main characters with consummate understanding and brilliance.

Ikram Akhtar’s script is superb and made the task of director Trikha that much easier. The twists and turn in the flick seem so real and keep the viewers hooked for the longer period. Abbas Ali Moghul handling of action sequences must be praised. Cinematography by Suhas Gujarathi has come out with good result and has enhanced the value of the flick.


STARDUST VERDICT

Due to absence of any big stars from bollywood and dark, brutal nature of the flick, it is unlikely to find favor in big cites or at multiplexes. Above average fare.
