Michael Jackson, the legendary King of Pop who features in the 90 minute documentary ‘This Is It’ directed by Kenny Ortega, is almost certain to get the Oscar nomination for his film after death.
The officials from Sony, who had bought the rights of the film for 60 million dollars, have indicated that they would be sending the Michael Jackson’s documentary for Oscar nominations next year. They are hopeful that the film would be accommodated in the best film category by the Academy as the legendary pop singer deserved nothing, but the best for his work.
The necessary paperwork and other formalities are being completed for the same, as to get the nomination it is mandatory that the flick should have run in the Los Angeles County for at least one week continuously.
Earlier, the Sony officials confirmed that the Michael Jackson’s flick had fetched $ 20 million dollars on the very first day of its release from the worldwide box office. They also indicated that the initial run of the film could be extended for more than two weeks if the demand from fans and theatres is strong enough.

‘This is It’ has been culled from the 100 hours of rehearsals that the legendary pop singer did before his scheduled live concerts in London. This has almost all of Michael Jackson’s hit numbers including -- Billi Jean, Beat It, Thriller, Man in the Mirror, Feel the Love, etc.
The movie has already generated a huge Michael Jackson mania all over the world—North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia. Michael Jackson’s fan following transcends boundaries and if there was any doubt about that, the world wide success of the film at box office is the latest testimony to that fact.
Undoubtedly, Michael Jackson has been presented in ‘This is it’ in the best possible manner and there is nothing against him, meaning this work is strictly for his hard core fans, and not for critics.

However, the audience would have loved the film more if it had a glimpse of Michael Jackson’s controversial and unconventional private life which had kept him always in limelight. For instance, the controversies about his living with animals, his room full of horror things and his not so pleasant sex life.
It may be recalled that Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, died just before his scheduled live London concerts, widely seen as an attempt of comeback on his part. He was fifty at that time and already a living legend in the field of world music and ‘This Is It’ seems to be a great work from one of the greatest artistes of world.
