Michael Jackson’s latest and only offering on celluloid in the form of a documentary ‘This Is It’ as directed by Kenny Ortega, seems more to be an effort at milking the reputation and iconic fan following of the King of Pop than anything else.



Had Michael Jackson been alive, these raw rehearsals would have never found their way into the public arena and the mystic of M J would have continued unabated. But AEG Live, the promoter of Michael Jackson’s comeback fifty live concerts scheduled at O2 Arena London, has made the whole thing in a money making circus.



The frail looking Michael Jackson in the 100  hours of rehearsals, does not seem to be at his best as far as his physical well being was concerned, though his effort at giving the practice his hundred percent was indeed admirable. In fact, for the first time Michael Jackson looks like an ordinary mortal in these rehearsals.

Even Sony Pictures’ talk of releasing Michael Jackson’s ‘This Is It’ only for two weeks seems more of a marketing strategy to earn maximum moolah than anything else. The critics point out that by limiting the period, Sony is trying to force fans to watch the film as it would not be available after two weeks.

The film, which had earned 20 million dollars on its first day of release, has already generated a mania worldwide and may even be declared the biggest hit of the year, if present craze about the flick is any indication.

Even Michael Jackson’s father says that the King of Pop has become more valuable than when he was alive. It may be recalled that M J had never had a cordial relationship with his father and had even accused him of beating during his childhood.

‘This Is It’ is a documentary made by Kenny Ortega from the hundred hours of footage that was left by Michael Jackson before he died of overdose of medicine in London in June. M J had been rehearsing for his upcoming live concerts to be held in London’s O2 Arena in the month of July that year.
