Oprah Winfrey, the celebrated host of the world renowned talk show Oprah Winfrey Show on the US television, has decided to say goodbye to the show and go for her own TV channel.




Sources close to Oprah’s production house Harpo say that the diva of US television will make the announcement herself live on her show today itself. The most respected black lady host of US is likely to declare the closure of her celebrated talk show from year 2011. In fact, insiders reveal that Oprah Winfrey has even decided that the last season will be 25th, coming to an end on September 9, 2011.




After that season, Oprah will concentrate on her own TV network to be known by the name of OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network). Celebrities from all over the world have always considered it to be an honor if invited by Oprah on the show. From India, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan had attended the talk show jointly after their wedding.

Oprah Winfrey had started this show way back in year 1986, and since then continued to host it with celebrities from all walks of life. In recent American Presidential elections, her support for the first American President Obama had proved crucial and he won the elections to become president of most powerful nation of the world.

The show had even added to the joint brand value of Bollywood biggies Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan, after they appeared on the show together. Sources say that its direct result was the deal that the married couple struck with Lux soap makers for a whopping sum of Rs 27 crore.

Oprah Winfrey is considered one of the most powerful black ladies of the USA. Her show had acquired an iconic status in the entertainment industry and celebrities aspired to be guest on her show. Her free, frank style of conversation with the celebrities had endeared her with the viewers.

However, some critics of the show think otherwise and point out that Oprah Winfrey decided to close down the talk show only after she felt that the show had been losing grounds. Even though it attracted around seven million eyeballs, the number is only half of what it used to be some years back.

These critics point out that Oprah Winfrey felt that it was wise to start her own TV channel ‘OWN’ rather than whining about losing viewers consistently. Now, she wants to experiment with the medium and so decided to go for a channel of her own from year 2011.
