Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming flick ‘My Name Is Khan’, which narrates the love story of Rizwan Khan(SRK’s screen name) and Mandira (played by Kajol), had the select BJP leaders hooked as they watched the Karan Johar directed film at a special screening in Delhi.
The reaction of these leaders are important as their allies like Shiv Sena and Vishwa Hindu Parishad(VHP) have been opposing the release of the film due to King Khan’s remarks on the inclusion of Pakistani players in the Indian Premier League(IPL).
Chetan Chauhan, one of the prominent leaders of BJP who watched the flick, said that the film and the politics should be kept separate and there was nothing in the film to oppose its release in India.
Earlier, even BJP chief Nitin Gadkari, who is himself from Maharashtra, had said that cinema was supposed to be fun and it should be enjoyed by one and all, and hence there was no need of banning SRK’s film or for that matter opposing him. Earlier, Congress party had openly supported the release of SRK’s ‘My Name Is Khan’ and now other parties have also joined hands in his support.
Even bollywood, which had kept itself out of Shah Rukh Khan’s film controversy till now, has come out in his support. Salman Khan, who does not have a friendly relation with SRK, has come out in his support and asked to keep film and politics separately and not disturb the screening of SRK’s latest offering.
The situation is tense as Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol are returning today to Mumbai after promoting their flick ‘My Name Is Khan’ in New York and London. Shiv Sena has already threatened them on returning and now it would be interesting to see how the saffron party reacts to the extending support base of King Khan.
The buzz doing the rounds in the bollywood is that Shah Rukh Khan has raised his stature to even higher level after taking a principled stand against Sena threats, and now other actors, too, have gathered courage to speak against the saffron political outfit.
For instance, Nana Patekar has condemned the whole thing done by politicians and said that as a Marathi manoos he never feared anything from outsiders. The gutsy actor goes on to say that what Mumbai is facing today is the result of mess created by society and the government through their apathy and inaction.
‘My Name Is Khan’ stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the lead. The story is based in the US, wherein Rizwan Khan, who is suffering from a rare type of Asperger’s disease, tries to win his love interest through meeting the US President. However, the post 9/11 scenario in the US obstructs his quest to accomplish his dream. The film is being released by Fox Star on February 12 worldwide.
