Aamir Khan, the ace producer, director and actor with several super successful films like ‘3 Idiots’, ‘Ghajini’, ‘Taare Zameen Par’ to his credit could not save himself from the scathing criticism of lyricists like Javed Akhtar and preferred to say goodbye to the Govt review committee on copyright issue.
The gutsy actor and social activist has already informed the Union Human Resources Development Minister Mr. Kapil Sibal about his decision to leave the committee due to unwarranted criticisms from other members. Aamir Khan felt that in the atmosphere of animosity and resentment, it would not be possible for him to contribute meaningfully to the whole cause and hence it made better sense to leave the panel.
As Aamir Khan was the only actor member of the panel, now it does not have any representative from the side of actors. However, it does have big names of bollywood like Javed Akhtar, Prasoon Joshi, Mukesh Bhatt, Boney Kapoor, Vishal Bhardwaj, Bhushan Kumar, Madhu Mantena as members to suggest the changes in the copyright act.
Sources close to Aamir Khan say that the perfectionist actor felt that he was being targeted for none of his fault. In any case, Aamir Khan had nothing to gain from the amendment, but a section of the committee was just attacking him for holding a particular point of view.
Insiders reveal that Aamir Khan felt that the role of stars in making a song number hit with the audiences was greater than the writers or lyricists. The perfectionist Khan also felt that the credit should be given more to music companies, stars and producers than lyricists.

This did not go well with lyricists like Javed Akhtar and he questioned Aamir Khan’s contribution to a hit number. Javed Akhtar, who is a veteran lyricist and a big name of bollywood in his own right, ridiculed Aamir Khan by saying that his contribution to a song was more in the nature of ‘interference’ than anything creative or meaningful.
This enraged Aamir Khan and he decided to leave the government appointed panel on copyright issues. He immediately dispatched a letter to Union HRD minister of the effect and said goodbye to the panel.
However, Aamir Khan was all praise for HRD minister Kapil Sibal for trying to reform the long outdated copyright act for the benefit of everyone concerned. Aamir expressed not only his gratitude to Sibal but also hoped that his reforms in the copyright act would be as revolutionary as his acts in the field of education.
