Ajay Devgan-Paresh Rawal-Konkona Sen Sharma starrer flick ‘Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?’, which released this Friday has emerged a winner at the box office with reports of around fifty percent occupancy rate coming in from across the country against Abay Deol’s flick ‘Road, Movie’, which could manage the occupancy rate of a meager twenty percent on the first day of its opening.
Theatre owners are happy with the public response to ‘Atithi tum…..’ and expect it to increase further on Saturday and Sunday. The sweet and gentle nature of the theme of the film, which is akin to Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s flicks of eighties, seems to have worked in favor of the flick. Through word of mouth, the film is likely to entice the family audiences towards theatres in the coming days.
The audiences, especially the family audiences in big metros, are able to relate with the theme of the flick directly, and this has generated an interest in this gentle movie made on the subject of an unwanted guest from the hinterland of North India coming to Mumbai.
Another factor which is said to have helped Ajay Devgan-Konkona Sen starrer flick ‘Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge’ is said to be very positive reviews from critics. Almost all the critics have applauded the flick for its realistic and gentle storyline with which people can relate directly.
Ajay Devgan and Konkona Sen Sharma have excelled in their respective roles by looking and behaving like ordinary guys living in metros with which aam janta could easily identify. On the other hand, Paresh Rawal provided much needed concept of a golden hearted dadaji from distant village, which audiences lack in the busy life of Metros. All these factors have combined to give the movie a cutting edge over other movies like ‘Road, Movie,’ ‘Rokkk’ etc which were also released this Friday.
Initial reports about Abhay Deol, Satish Kaushik starrer flick ‘Road, Movie’ are not good as the movie opened at multiplexes with the audience attendance being not more than twenty percent on Friday. This is so when Abhay Deol has a very good track record at the box office with films like ‘Dev D’, ‘Oye Lucky….’, etc
The audiences coming out of theatres did not feel enthusiastic about the ‘Road, Movie’ and felt depressed. In fact, they expressed their disgust over Abhay Deol choosing such an incoherent film after doing some of the finest works in bollywood.
Similarly, Rokkk’, the horror film released this weak, was greeted with muted response from the audiences. In fact, the attendance at multiplexes was even poorer than ‘Road, Movie’. However, it was slightly better at single screen theatres in the interiors.
