Amitabh Bachchan, the Shehanshah of bollywood and doyen of Indian cinema who had even been declared the actor of the millennium, is unfit for becoming the ambassador of Kerala tourism due to his association with Narendra Modi’s government of Gujarat and being its tourism ambassador.




 The left ruled state, which had earlier invited the veteran actor to help its falling tourist industry by becoming its brand ambassador, is facing opposition from its own senior party members in this regard. One of the influential members of the Polit Bureau, Mr. Sitaram Yechuri, is said to be dead against Mr. Bachchan becoming the ambassador of left ruled state or as is commonly known ‘God’s own country’.




Sources say that by inducting Amitabh Bachchan as brand ambassador of its tourism, the Kerala government would antagonize its Muslim supporters who abhor any thought of being associated with Narnedra Modi or BJP even remotely. And, it is no secret that Amitabh Bachchan had openly praised the Gujarat Chief Minister for his developmental activities and visionary policies for the state of Gujarat.

The problem with Kerala government is that its income from tourism has fallen considerably and only a person of Amitabh Bachchan’s stature can help in restoring it. It is for this reason that Kodeyeri Balakrishnan, the minister for tourism, has been sticking to his gun on the issue and still maintaining that if everything went in accordance with the plan, Big B would still be appointed the ambassador of the state.

It may be recalled that Kerala has been ruled by Left coalitions for a long time now and as the party frequently resorted to bands and hartals, the income from tourism went down drastically. In fact, the Kerala has the dubious distinction of facing 100 bandhs, hartals in a year, which is a record in the whole of the country. This obviously has drained the treasury of the state and it needs some special measures to regain its financial health.

Earlier, Amitabh Bachchan had requested Narendra Modi government to exempt his home production ‘Paa’ from entertainment tax in the state and the Gujarat government obliged. Later, Big B offered to become the brand ambassador of the state and govt jumped on offer and made him brand ambassador of the state tourism.
