STORY

This is a love story revolving around the character of Ajay Devgan (Ajay) and Kajol (Pia). Ajay Devgan is a leading psychiatrist and enjoying himself with friends Sumeet Raghvan (Nikhil), Divya Dutta (Reena), Karan Khanna (Vicky) and Isha Sharvani (Natasha) on a cruise. Nikhil and Divya are married to each other but not happy together while Karan and Isha are in love with each other. It is on the cruise that Ajay meets for the first time Kajol (Pia), who serves him drinks, but the meeting was disastrous and Kajol did not like Ajay.

But Ajay is besotted by the young lady and wants her affection at all cost. He pursues her everywhere trying to woo her by all conceivable means. Finally, Kajol relents and the two find succor in each other’s arms. But soon lies and deceit comes between them and they stray apart from each other.

But soon the confusion gets cleared and Kajol returns to Ajay Devgan who has been waiting for her. Now, they decide to enter matrimony despite of advice to contrary by their friends and well wishers.

However, the marriage of Ajay and Kajol is soon rocked by seemingly insurmountable problems. But they understand the true meaning of marriage and do not take it as a ritual. They try every conceivable method to save their marriage like one tries to maintain balance while dancing with one another.  Kajol is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and Ajay tries his level best to play the best husband. What happens after that is revealed in the climax sequence.

PERFORMANCE

Ajay Devgan’s performance is par excellence. He is just brilliant in the portrayal of the character of Ajay who is deeply in love with his wife. This film can be ranked amongst one of his best performances of bollywood. Kajol in the role of Pia is equally superb and has given a top notch performance. Every emotion of happiness and pain has been brilliantly depicted by her in the film. Sumeet Raghvan has come out very natural in the part of Nikhil and plays his role clinical precision. Divya Dutta too looks in control and gives a good account of herself in the character of Reena. Karan Khanna and Isha Sharvani pass the muster. Others lend able support to the main cast of the film.

The direction of Ajay Devgan is sensitive and brilliant. He has discovered a new side to his personality and can be trusted to give better films to bollywood in future. the film bears the imprint of his sensitivity throughout but speaks loudly in the climax sequences, which is brilliantly shot and enacted. However, the film could have been a little shorter in the second half for better effect.

The screenplay by Robin Bhatt, Khurana and Sutanu Gupta is very good and successful in keeping the audiences glued to their seats. Aseem Bajaj’s cinematography, especially during cruise sequence, is first rate and helps the film becoming a glitzy affair. The dialogues by Ashwani Dhir strike straight at the heart of audiences. The music by Vishal Bhardwaj goes well with the theme of the film.

STARDUST VERDICT

Being high on emotional element (read rona dhona) and with real life couple Ajay Devgan- Kajol playing the lead, the film is likely to be patronized by family audiences and fair sex. In a nutshell, it is likely to do better business at multiplexes than at single screen theatres. Above average fare.
